Teaching Philosophy

I view teaching music as giving students the opportunity to express themselves and find their voice. I believe every student learns differently and that improvement often correlates with interest, so I encourage students to choose their own repertoire. This allows them to learn important concepts while remaining connected to the music they have chosen and feel invested in. My hope is that a combination of fundamentals and freedom will help students find their musical voice.

Another one of my hopes for my students is that music impacts their lives in a way that extends beyond their study of music. Learning an instrument fosters the development of life skills that are respected across every discipline such as consistency, perseverance, and a strong work ethic. As their teacher, I want these qualities to set them up for success wherever their life takes them.
